The AIS map from Vesselfinder and MarineTraffic show where we are right now. AIS communicates via the VHF band, and when we are far from country, the signal may disappear, which means that the map is not always updated.
Aboard Idéfix we also have a transmitter that shares the AIS targets we see from the boat, currently is only available when we have cellular cover.
We are working on a little something, so it will be able to broadcast over SAT communication also.
